Install ReShade
Biggest impactDownload ReShade (with full add-on support) from the official site, run it, pick your Wow.exe, and choose the Direct3D 9 renderer. Tick “Standard effects” so it grabs the shader collection.

Apply our preset
Drop AreosCinematic.ini next to Wow.exe. Launch the game, press HOME, and pick AreosCinematic from the preset dropdown. For ambient occlusion, enable depth-buffer access in ReShade’s DX9 settings and test while standing in the world (not the login screen).

Add HD textures
Low-riskTexture packs are just MPQ files you drop in — no install, no model bugs. World packs go in Data\, language packs in Data\enUS\. Name them to load last (letters after numbers: patch-4.MPQ … patch-Z.MPQ). See the curated packs below.

Tune engine settings
OptionalAdd these to WTF\Config.wtf for crisper draw distance and filtering, then max out anti-aliasing / anisotropic in the in-game Video options or your GPU control panel.

⚠ Add one pack at a time and log in to verify. If an NPC turns green or invisible, the last MPQ you added is the culprit — remove it. Delete any
patch-w.mpq from other servers to avoid conflicts.
